7-Year-Old Girl Raises $15,000 For Mom’s Headstone Through Lemonade Stand

A seven-year-old girl from Alabama impressively raised $15,000 through a lemonade stand to fund a headstone for her mom’s grave.

Emouree Johnson was left heartbroken after her mother, Karli Bordner, passed away suddenly on March 13, just shy of her 30th birthday.

Karli was laid to rest a few days later at the Rehobeth Missionary Baptist Church Cemetery in Guntersville. When Emouree visited the grave with her grandmother, she felt saddened because her mom's plot lacked a proper headstone.

Her grandmother, Jennifer Bordner, had to explain to Emouree that the family could only afford a simple metal plaque at the grave. However, Emouree was not deterred.

The determined seven-year-old decided to set up a lemonade stand, starting with only four lemons and cups priced at $1 each.

In an interview with the Jackson County Sentinel, Jennifer admitted she initially didn't think much of Emouree's plan.

She remembered: "[Emouree] said, ‘I just want to do it to help out with my mommy’s stuff.’ And she told me to take a picture of her and put it on Facebook."

Jennifer posted the photo as her granddaughter requested, and soon the community began to rally around the cause.

Although Emouree kept her lemonade prices steady, many generous customers donated well above the cost of a cup. Emouree shared with the Sentinel, "The most that we got from one cup of lemonade was $300."

The response was overwhelming, with crowds coming to buy lemonade. As the story spread, a local monument company stepped in to donate a headstone for Karli’s grave.

With a total of $15,000 raised, the funds are now set to help cover the funeral expenses and support Emouree and her family during this difficult time. Karli did not have insurance when she passed away.

"Everybody has come," Jennifer explained. "We collected the money for her headstone, but now they are donating that. I tried to let everybody know, but they keep bringing stuff for Emouree to help take care of her."

Jennifer expressed her gratitude on Facebook, overwhelmed by the community’s support.

"Your kindness generosity love for Emouree her mother’s funeral is paid and the headstone is being donated thanks to everyone," she posted.

"I have never experienced something so amazing a gift from God for Emouree. This has been an amazing blessing I can’t say thank you enough."
